Wedge Design
Oblina
Description
A relic of flame and form.
Oblina is a candleholder shaped by contrast, pairing molten softness with mineral precision. Inspired by votive objects and geological permanence, it holds light as something passing, a flame that slowly consumes its own source. The base is faceted like volcanic glass, solid and weighted as if drawn from subterranean pressure. Above it, the wax drips, slumps, and disappears, its form given over to heat, gravity, and time.
Color
Metallic
Dimensions
59*65*89mm
Uses
- Interiors seeking statement objects
- Residential spaces that benefit from collectible design moments
Why it works?
Strong geometric language creates immediate spatial presence.
Additive manufacturing enables forms not achievable through conventional furniture making.
Pieces function as both seating or tables and as architectural objects within a room.
Material expression is raw, refined, and directional.
About Wedge Design
Wedge is a London based design studio founded by Peiyan Zou, Andy Zhang, and Lei Zhang. The practice works across furniture, installations, and architectural systems through an experimental approach rooted in material ecology, computation, and fabrication. Their pieces are developed through binder jet printing in quartz sand, then hand finished to reveal a raw, stone like surface. The result is a sculptural design language that feels at once geological, digital, and tactile.
Respecting Biodiversity
- Material systems that minimize reliance on resource intensive extraction.
- Reduced waste production compared to traditional subtractive fabrication.
- Design approach prioritizes long life cycles and spatial permanence.
Sustainability Details
Material: Aluminium alloy
Furniture produced through additive manufacturing processes that reduce material waste. Select pieces utilize sand based or mineral composite materials. Durability and longevity are central to the material strategy.
